Qatar Airways achieves 200,000 Flying Hours with V2500 Engines12/09/2003Five years after Qatar Airways and IAE signed the initial contract to supply V2500 engines for the airlines’ growing Airbus single aisle fleet, the modern Middle Eastern airline has achieved the 200.000 V2500 engine flying hours and 100,000 engine cycles milestones. The reliable V2500 engine powers all of Qatar Airways’ current 14 Airbus A320 Family aircraft and five additional aircraft to be delivered in the next 12 month. At the Dubai Air Show Qatar Airways received an award to recognize the "excellent operational reliability of the Qatar Airways V2500 powered fleet.” Qatar Airways currently operates 11 Airbus A320 and one Airbus A319 LR (Long Range) aircraft. Qatar’s Amiri Flight flies an additional Airbus A320 and one Airbus A319 Corporate Jetliner. Two Airbus A321s and three A320s will join Qatar Airways’ single aisle fleet by the end of 2004. The 22,000 - 33,000 lb thrust V2500-A5 is available in seven different thrust settings to power the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 family of aircraft as well as the A319 Corporate Jet. IAE is a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise Pratt & Whitney (NYSE: UTX), Rolls-Royce (RR.L.), the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines (DCX). More than 900 V2500-powered aircraft have been delivered and the worldwide fleet has accumulated over 27 million flying hours.
