JetBlue Orders IAE V2500 Engines for 30 Additional Air bus A320 Aircraft07/19/2004Today low-fare airline JetBlue Airways and IAE International Aero Engines signed an agreement to exercise V2500 engine options for its recently announced 30 additional Airbus A320 aircraft. Based in New York City, USA, JetBlue already operates a fleet of 62 V2500 powered A320 aircraft and now has IAE engines for an additional 121 A320s on firm order. The list price value of the announcement today amounts to more than $400 million for IAE and its shareholders. JetBlue has now placed firm orders for V2500 engines for 173 aircraft. Including options and ten leased aircraft, JetBlue's A320 fleet could grow to as many as 233 V2500 powered aircraft by 2012. With an expected yearly delivery rate of 17 new V2500 powered A320s, JetBlue will be operating the largest V2500 fleet in six years. Last year JetBlue placed the largest single firm V2500 order in IAE's history. Tom Anderson, JetBlue's Senior Vice President, Technical Operations & Aircraft Programs, said during an event in IAE's Farnborough Chalet: "JetBlue is excited to become one of the largest V2500 operators in the world. Since the beginning of our success story just five years ago, IAE has been a major JetBlue business partner. IAE is a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise Pratt & Whitney (NYSE: UTX), Rolls-Royce (RR.L.), the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines. More than 1,000 V2500-powered aircraft have been delivered and the worldwide fleet has accumulated over 30 million flying hours.
