First IAE V2500 powered Airbus delivered to Independence Air09/13/2004Today the first Airbus A319 for low-fare airline Independence Air was unveiled at Washington Dulles Airport. Like all other Airbus A320 family aircraft in the airline's expanding fleet, the new A319 is powered by clean, quiet and efficient V2500 engines. Independence Air's single-aisle Airbus fleet will grow to 28 aircraft by early 2006. Robert Keady, IAE's Senior Vice President, Customer Business said: "We are proud to welcome Independence Air as a new member of our growing global customer base of more than 100 airlines, operators and leasing companies. The preferred engine of choice for single-aisle Airbus aircraft, our V2500 is also by a wide margin, the engine of choice for Low Cost Carriers, offering the highest levels of reliability and performance at the lowest operating cost. We look forward to a strong partnership with Independence Air." Independence Air is scheduled to take delivery of three more A319s this year, 18 in 2005 and another six in 2006, bringing the total fleet to 115 jet aircraft including other aircraft types. The first two Airbus A319s will begin service from Independence Air's hub at Washington Dulles International Airport in November of this year. The company plans to use the A319s to add service to many destinations in Florida and the West Coast.
