AMERICA WEST CHOOSES THE V2500 AGAIN

10/21/1999

IAE International Aero Engines AG announced today that America West, a current V2500 customer, has chosen the engine to power a further 12 Airbus Industrie A320-200 aircraft in an order worth approximately $150 million to IAE. Deliveries of the new aircraft will start in August 2000 and continue through 2004.

Under the agreement, the airline will also receive options and purchase rights for 50 A320 family aircraft. These could be A318, A319, A320 or A321 models depending on airline requirements.

Coupled with America West’s existing fleet of A320s and the 1997 order for V2500 engines to power 27 A319 aircraft, today’s news means that by 2004 America West will operate a total of 79 V2500-powered aircraft.

"As one of our largest customers, America West is very important to IAE," said Mike Field, IAE Senior Vice President Sales and Customer Support. "Getting a repeat order from America West, who knows and uses the product, is a demonstration of the faith that the airline has in IAE."

The ninth largest U.S. carrier already operates 43 V2500-powered aircraft, a mix of A320s and A319s. America West first ordered V2500 engines in 1990 and currently operates V2500-A5 and V2500-A1 engines, including Phoenix Standard A1 engines.

The V2500 engine combines industry leading technology from IAE partners Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Motoren- und Turbinen- Union München GmbH. The V2500 has won total orders worth over $18 billion and has more than 75 customers.
