AMERICA WEST ADDS MORE V2500 POWER

07/26/2000

America West, one of IAE’s largest airline customers, has chosen to expand its V2500-powered fleet with four additional Airbus A319 aircraft due for delivery next year. Each aircraft will be equipped with two 24,000lb-thrust V2524-A5 engines. The business is worth more than $50 million to IAE International Aero Engines AG, the multi-national consortium responsible for the V2500.

"As one of our largest customers, this renewed vote of confidence from America West is particularly significant," said Mike Terrett, IAE President and CEO. "We look forward to deepening our already close working relationship with the airline as the fleet grows."

"The ability of the V2500 to deliver reliable, efficient power in tough operating conditions is a key benefit that we at America West really appreciate," said William A. Franke, America West Holdings Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The airline currently operates 54 V2500-powered aircraft (42 A320s and 12 A319s) and by 2004 will operate more than 80 Airbus single-aisle aircraft powered by the V2500. America West was one of IAE’s first customers and currently operates V2500-A5 and V2500-A1 engines, including Phoenix Standard A1 engines.

The V2500 engine combines industry leading technology from IAE shareholders Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Motoren- und Turbinen- Union München GmbH. The V2500 fleet accumulates approximately 300,000 hours a month, a number which is set to rise as the number of aircraft equipped with the engine increases steadily. Currently, the number of hours flown by the V2500 stands at over 13 million.
